Show-Me Chefs

Show-Me Chefs is an Emmy award-winning TV show Missouri State University has made for several years that is almost entirely produced and put together by students. Editing this episode (season 4, episode 6) was maybe my biggest foray into studio multicam editing. With over 7 hours of footage to whittle down and multiple style guidelines to adhere to, it was a challenge, but one I’m happy to have taken on. (2019)

Can You Hear Me?

For my first project in a cinematography course, I worked with a deaf student to put together this piece about a budding relationship between a deaf pianist and another musician. A lot of things were learned the hard way over the course of production, but there was also a lot of knowledge gained that’s stuck with me ever since. (2018)

Circles of Life

I’m a huge font nerd, so for this kinetic typography project for a college animation course, I wanted to raise the bar as much as possible. Taking inspiration and an excerpt from a Suzy Kassem poem, I spent hours on each shot trying to perfect all the different layers of animation. (2019)

Conviction: Live at the Art Factory

Filming and editing my dad’s band’s live concert was my gateway into music video production, and boy were there some roadblocks. Mismatched cameras, sync slipping, and poor on-site mixing from the venue’s audio technician made the editing for this take literal weeks. That all being said, I’m very proud of the results considering it was the first thing I had ever worked on with more than one camera. (2016)

Sugarcubes

I’ve played drums in a couple bands since middle school, but this was the first song I played on that’s ever gotten recorded. Taking a page from early Pink Floyd, I wanted to match the abstract feeling present in the rest of the album but still bring some power to the rhythm of the song. Stages being a visual album, I was thrilled to also get to edit the video for another song on the album, titled ‘OoOoo’. (2020)

Writing Selections

  • Let Mommy Buy Weed

    I wrote this poem for my mother’s birthday one year arguing for marijuana legalization, as it’s one of the only things that helps her chronic pain. A year later, we had turned it into this fully illustrated children’s book! Part Dr. Seuss, part Go the F**k to Sleep, I hope this ended up being a fun and educational way to talk about some of the benefits of marijuana. (2016)

  • Internalize

    The script for my senior thesis film, written by myself and Christopher Mitchell over a period of 9 months in 2019. We put everything we had into the script, and couldn’t be happier with the result, even if we had to kill some darlings in previous drafts. (2019)

  • Headlights

    I’ve been on a lot of long drives in my life, and sometimes find my brain wandering in the third or fourth hour on the highway. This scary(?) story came from a particularly long night drive, and was an excuse to get back into writing after a long time away, and experiment with a spookier atmosphere. (2023)

  • Tallymarks

    My final project for a creative writing class in college, this short story follows a man as he enters a prison and feels it slowly change him. As much as I would like to say there was a lot of preparation that went into this, I wrote almost all of it the night before it was due! (2018)

  • Fallens Memoriam

    Another collaboration between me and Christopher Mitchell, Fallens is a heavily stylized, abstract short about the degredation of a long-standing relationship, told ambiguously and through several points of view. (2020)

  • Brianna's Birthday Show 2!

    I knew my sister’s second birthday short film had to be as good as it could possibly be, so I spent months drafting, outlining, plotting, and revising the structure of the video until finally reaching this result, a comedic sketch comedy anthology to present 18 tips and tricks on how to be a functional adult. (2021)

  • Jack's Big Idea

    While working on Internalize, I was also helping to write an ensemble comedy short film. This was the last draft of the script that I primarily wrote, as scheduling on my own thesis started to take priority. The final script is notably different, but retains a lot of the characterization I worked hard to define in here. (2019)
