Music Videos

As a drummer, whenever I get to work on a music video, the most important thing to get right to me is the rhythm of the cuts. If the pacing doesn’t fit the song, and the shots don’t fit the energy, the entire thing falls apart. Layering narrative, effects, and the requirements of the client on top of that is always a fun challenge that I love to take on. Being able to adapt the feeling of the song to something on screen is a thrill I’ll never get tired of.

Videos are presented in reverse chronological order, with my newest at the top.

The Hu - Mother Nature (feat. LP)

Using provided archival and stock footage, the goal here was to draw parallels between the song and the serene, sometimes overwhelming, but always beautiful feeling of being in nature. The band has such a respect for the world around them that it only felt right to have it take center stage. (2023)

From Ashes to New - Hate Me Too (Alternate)

This song about the liberating feeling of leaving a toxic relationship was also my first chance to get behind the camera for a little bit of production, traveling with the main crew to film a live performance from the band and gathering materials for both this video and an accompanying behind the scenes featurette. (2023)

Nothing More - Best Times (feat. Lacey Sturm)

With such a powerful song, the emotion was easy to draw out from the actors and performers. The real challenge here was balancing everything to fit the tempo of the song while still maintaining the desired abstract aesthetics. (2023)

The Hu - Black Thunder (feat. DL and Serj Tankian)

Such an epic song deserved a video to match, with the cuts aiming to replicate the raw power of the drums and the feeling of a thunderstorm before deforming into the chaos of rain on a battlefield towards the conclusion. (2023)

The Hu - This is Mongol (feat. William DuVall)

A challenge to execute with a very short turnaround time, this video was a stress test for my chroma key and tracking skills. The musicians’ inspiration of a warriors’ spirit shines through a stylized aesthetic meant to match the original video while still emphasizing the featured artist. (2023)

Cory Marks - Burn It Up

Playing around with a horror B-movie aesthetic and vampire tropes was a very fun task to try and nail. Utilizing film grain, texture overlays, and many other effects helped give this video a unique identity, and elevate the less-than-serious tone of the song. (2022)

Stages - OoOoo

Part of a visual album senior thesis project, Stages had a different musician, DP, and editor behind every song, and I was lucky enough to work on this abstract piece. It was so much fun to experiment with trippier effects, and really get into the vibe behind the music. I also played drums on Sugarcubes, another track on the album. (2020)

(My portion of the video starts at 6:50)

Conviction - Finding My Way

The first music video I ever worked on was this original song by my dad’s band. I borrowed a camera from school, followed them to the studio, and most definitely got in the way a few times. Despite that, I’m very proud of how it turned out, given how inexperienced I was at the time, and the song is still great to listen to and relive after all these years. (2016)
